Goethe’s Faust, a masterpiece of German literature, was an inspiration to many artists and musicians of Romantic era. When the book found itself in the hands of young Hector Berlioz, he could not let go of it. He read it on the train, in the theatre, at concerts, everywhere. Likewise, as if spellbound, he wrote his dramatic legend The Damnation of Faust in one breath. One can tell that Berlioz defied traditional forms in it and pushed the style boundaries of his time.
Soloists, choir, children’s choir and symphonic orchestra will find their place on the stage of the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Srba Dinic, a great connoisseur of opera and symphony, the two genres Berlioz weaves together in his dramatic moratorium, will be standing in front of them all. After its premier in 1877 Berlioz believed the Damnation of Faust to be a bitter creative defeat. However, over a century of full concert halls and musicians worldwide have convinced us to the contrary. This is a complex piece which requires profound knowledge and experience which will be demonstrated by Srba Dinic and ensemble theatre, while the audience will recognize the motives of love and temptation ubiquitous in all eras and style epochs.

H. Berlioz: The Damnation of Faust
When Saint George Strings get together with their chief conductor Srba Dinic, eight seasons can fit into one single concert. The concert due to be held in the banquet hall of the City Assembly with Four Seasons by Vivaldi and Piazzolla on the programme will symbolically usher the audience into the orthodox New Year celebrated in Serbia on the 13th January. Vivaldi’s Four Seasons reperesents a cycle of four concerts for violin and orchestra, while The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla represents a suite of four pieces in tango style. Soloist will be Josef Ziga, concert master in Braunschweig Opera. This concert is exceptional also by the outstanding quality of the violin the soloist will play. The violin in question is the property of Belgrade Faculty of Music Art; it was made by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini towards the end of 18th century. For this occasion, the Faculty will loan the violin from the last great Cremona craftsman’s workshop. For Srba Dinic and Saint George Strings there is no better way to start 2019 but with the violin of noble sound and the programme beloved by the audience.

The next opera premiere in Palacio de Bellas Artes theatre will start with the famous Strauss’s Overture from the Bat operetta. Srba Dinic, soloists, choir and theatre orchestra have chosen the operetta to give audience the taste of Viennese atmosphere of bygone Habsburg time when waltz phrases accompanied political meetings, diplomatic talks and nobility gatherings, but also common festivities in the suburbs of Austrian imperial city. In his operetta The Bat Strauss depicted the Viennese society of the time, finding inspiration and roots in Austrian folk music, German Singspiele and classical opere buffe. The plot takes place in the course of a New Year’s Eve and brings merry mood, affairs, identity swops, easy melodies singing about life joy and ‘’you only live once” message. Waltz is the main form in all Strauss’s operettas, fulfilling the expectations of the time and place where he lived. However, Strauss stands out as an unsurpassable creator since he artistically perfected the classical Viennese waltz and raised it to the level of concert orchestra music. Consequently, his music is a must on the repertoire of famed Viennese New Year’s Concert held every year on the 1st January. To the joy of many, the audience in Mexico City will have the opportunity to hear all these famous melodies in December when they will be performed on the stage on Palacio de Bellas Artes by performers and Srba Dinic.

Srba Dinic will stage one of his favorite operas in Palacio de Bellas Artes. Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro will gather together the chief conductor, choir and opera orchestra. This masterpiece of Mozart’s is unique in that the libretto was written on the basis of Beaumarchais’ play in French. The plot takes place in Spain, libretto was written by Da Ponte in Italian, and the music was composed by a German living in Austro-Hungary. Mozart spoke several languages and he toyed with them with ease. Therefore, the opera speaks all these languages, and above them all is music which units and transforms them. Music has a central place in Mozart’s operas and it is the vehicle of all developments on the stage. Bearing this in mind, Srba Dinic, soloists, choir and orchestra will have the most difficult and the most beautiful job to present the audience the opera which speaks a universal language and which has enjoyed a huge success ever since its premier in 1786 when Mozart conducted it himself.

Impressions from the permiere Flying Dutchman are still being retold, while Srba Dinic and Staatsorchester Braunschweig are already preparing a new symphonic concert. The Stadthalle audience will recognize from the very first phrases a well known theme, one of the most beautiful in classical music. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote the Concert for Piano and Orchestar in B-flat minor in 1875. He rewrote it several times not knowing that this concert will become one of the most performed pieces in piano literature. Pianist Olga Scheps will present her musical interpretation of this piece. Olga had her first performance with the orchestra at the age of 14, which was followed by numerous prizes at international competitions and audio publications of reputable recording studios. It will be very interesting to hear the pianist of Russin origin who grew up in Germany perform the famous concert of Russian composer with a German orchestra. In the second part of the concert, Brahm’s Second Symphony in D-minor, written two years later, will be performed. Brahms was particularly fond of his masterpiece and believed that only real musical conosseurs and special audience will recognize the true beauty in its melancholic sound. Such is the audience in Braunshcwieg, used to the carefully selected high quality musical repertoire, performed week in week out by Staatorchester Braunschweig and its GMD Srba Dinic.

In Braunschweig theatre ships are being installed and sails spread out – all pieces of set design are being put together so to help the Opera ensemble and Srba Dinic in presenting the new opera premiere – Wagner’s Flying Dutchman.
The story of a cursed seaman who roams the seas and wishes to do penance through love inspired Wagner to write the opera which will move music boundaries. In addition to music and libretto which he always wrote himself, Wagner introduced overlapping leitmotivs which help us understand the opera as a unique entity. Wagner is one of the most important German composers and it is a privilege to listen to his work in a German opera house with a long standing tradition such as Theater Braunschweig. It is pleasure to put all segments of his opera in a unique art piece which will be done by Isabel Osterman by directing it and Srba Dinic through music and artistic experience.

Each season parallel with its opera repertoire Staatsorchester Braunschweig has a cycle of symphonic concerts. Concerts are held in the beautiful hall Stadthalle Braunschweig on Sunday mornings and Monday evenings so that all generations can visit them. The opening of a new season is scheduled for the following weekend. The carefully selected program by GMD Srba Dinic promises a season of marvellous concerts. The first one will be Pulcinella Orchestra Suite by Igor Stravinsky. Alhtough obivously inspired by the ballet under the same name, this suite shows how much Stravinsky’s music mesmerizes even without ballet movements on the stage. The orchestra will then perform Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony. This symphony is well known by its memorable theme going through all four movements. Due to its beauty, it served as an inspiration to many film and popular music composers, so the audience will certaily find it interesting to hear all the familiar themes in the original and professional performance. The audiences are coming back to Stadthalle and Srba Dinic and Staartsorchester to their beloved stage for the performance of symphonic music.

Premiere, performances, concerts… although the season has only started, positive reviews and sell-outs already announce a successful season for Staatsorchester Braunschweig and their GMD Srba Dinić. They are preparing a special concert for Wolfsburg audience where they will perform Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms. The title of the concert is Leonora, after Beethoven’s overture no. 3 which will open the concert. Of the three Leonora overture compositions, this one is believed to be the most beautiful because it brings the story to the culmination and celebrates humanism and heroes. The audience will recognize the same motives coloured with more lyrical moments in Brahms’s First Symphony which is seen by many as a sequel to Beethoven’s nine symphonies, bearing in mind the deep love and respect Brahms cherished for Beethoven. The orchestra demonstrate all their qualities regularly at symphonic concerts, however it is a special event when one of the members introduces themselves as soloists. At this concert it will be Salomo Schweizer solo oboist of the orchestra. He will perform Mozart’s concert in C-major, which is very popular in the arrangement for flute due to its singableness, but in this case the concert will have a warm musical expression characteristic for Schweizer’s playing. For Srba Dinic and Staatsorchester Braunschweig this will be another opportunity to display all the qualities of joint playing and mutual support.
